My family and I, moved to the UK 20 years ago. We lived in Hounslow for 6 years and after a fire at our block of flats, my husband, my son and I looked for a better place to settle. One day we came to Slough for a shopping trip, as we had heard Slough has the biggest Tesco in the region, we would offend visit the cinema and return for shopping. We really enjoyed the atmosphere of the town centre. In 2010 we rented the flat near Goodman Park and Slough became our home.
Our lives changed dramatically after moving to Slough, we loved the location, convenient access to jobs at Heathrow airport, school for our son was close by, saving us travel time. We spent more time exploring different parks going for walks and made lots of friends from our community.
A milestone was created when we invested in our very own property in Slough, we had decided this was the place we would like to settle. My husband found a new job in Bracknell and I was working as a Travel Agent for TUI (Thomson) on Slough High Street. I spent 10 years at the shop serving local residents of Slough and creating great holiday memories. Currently I’m a Service Supervisor for Heave Plant Machinery Maintenance located at Keypoint Bath Road.
Why stay in Slough? there are a few reasons….. we feel connected to the community, we have lots of Eastern European friends, so never feel lonely, a range of Eastern European food shops that offer tastes of home and I’m a Zumba instructor. I recently started a collaboration with The Slough Hub to teach Zumba classes to the community. I engage with people from different walks of life, background and age. Zumba is a not only great for health, fitness and fun, It’s also a way to connect people.
I feel Slough, like the town centre is having a rough time, I’m hoping to see improvements after development starts and a promising future where businesses and the community can thrive stronger again.
