About The Sponsor
This project was generously supported by Dulux, a global leader in colour, creativity and paint innovation—and a brand of AkzoNobel. With its UK head office based in Slough since 1922, Dulux has deep roots in the very community the Langley Pavilion serves, giving their support special significance.
As part of AkzoNobel—one of the world’s leading paint and coatings companies—Dulux champions the power of colour to improve wellbeing and strengthen communities. Through its international Let’s Colour movement, Dulux has revitalised thousands of public spaces around the world.
Dulux funded the complete project, donating all paint, tools and materials, while their volunteer team worked side-by-side with local residents to bring the Langley Pavilion transformation to life. The longstanding presence of Dulux in Slough and the commitment of both Dulux and AkzoNobel to social impact made this project possible.
About The Mural
Langley Pavilion mural is a celebration of belonging, imagination, and the power of
community.
The young Slough girl’s face glows with confidence and curiosity. She represents the
future of the town – joyful, diverse, and full of potential. Her calm expression and luminous
colours invite viewers into a world where community spaces feel welcoming, safe, and
inspiring.
Flowing across the wall is a ribbon of vivid rainbow colour, echoing both creativity and
movement. The colours swirl upward into a cosmic skyscape, blending deep blues, violets,
and turquoise light. This celestial theme pays tribute to Slough’s scientific heritage, including
William Herschel, discoverer of the planet Uranus and former resident of the town.
The circular window at the centre of the building becomes a glowing planet, seamlessly
incorporated into the mural’s design,a reminder that Slough is a place of discovery,
invention, and endless possibility.
To the right, the beloved Dulux dog appears as a loyal companion, symbolising warmth,
friendliness, and the long-standing bond between Dulux and communities across the UK.
The dog’s hair gently flow into cosmos bridge the earthly and the cosmic, blending the
everyday beauty of Slough with a sense of wonder and imagination. It brings the message
“Let’s Colour Our Community” to life in the most vibrant way.
The work reflects a simple but powerful belief.
About The Project
The Langley Pavilion transformation is the first chapter of Viva Slough’s wider initiative to
revitalise all under-used community centres across the borough. For years, these
buildings have served essential local functions but lacked the colour, atmosphere, and sense
of welcome that make people feel excited to visit.
Through partnerships with organisations like Dulux, local creatives, and volunteers, Viva
Slough is working to:
reimagine community spaces as vibrant, modern, and inspiring;
increase community use and engagement;
support mental and physical wellbeing;
and create environments where people want to gather, learn, relax, and connect.
The makeover was co-created with Dulux, with volunteers from Dulux and Slough working
side-by-side to repaint and uplift the entire interior. This shared effort not only improved the
building but also strengthened the sense of ownership and pride among residents.
The Langley Pavilion project demonstrates what is possible when creativity, partnership, and
community come together.
About the Girl
About the dog
The Dulux Dog—an Old English Sheepdog recognised for its shaggy coat and gentle charm—has long been an enduring symbol of trust, quality and warmth for the Dulux brand. Since its debut in the 1960s, it has come to embody reliability and friendliness, reflecting Dulux’s commitment to helping people create spaces they love. More than a mascot, the Dulux Dog represents the emotional connection people have with their homes—and with the colours that bring those spaces to life.
In the mural, the dog appears as a gentle guardian, symbolising loyalty, welcome and the deep-rooted bond between Dulux and communities across the UK. Its calming presence brings balance to the composition and reinforces the idea that community spaces should feel safe, comforting and full of character.

About The Designs

The interior design of the Langley Pavilion Community Centre was crafted by Martha Dunican a Dulux Commercial Colour Designer at AkzoNobel, thoughtfully tailored to the Centre and its users. Colour has always had the power to spark emotion—to inspire, uplift and connect. Dulux set out to reimagine Langley Pavilion with a clear vision: to create a palette that not only brightened the space but also reflected the spirit and story of the Slough community. Warm, welcoming tones now guide visitors from the entrance through the corridors and main halls, creating a natural rhythm that draws people in. Vibrant accents add energy throughout the space, echoing Viva Slough’s brand colours—most notably the bold blues that symbolise its strong community pillar.
Let's colour our Community
A poem for the Langley Pavilion mural
A girl looks out with starlit eyes,
A calm new dawn in Slough’s own skies.
She carries futures yet untold,
A tapestry of young and bold.
Behind her glows a cosmic sweep,
A ribboned sky both wide and deep;
For here, where colours rise and spin,
We honour galaxies within.
This town once watched Herschel gaze
At midnight skies in wonder’s haze,
And from his lens, in icy blue,
Uranus came into view.
A planet found in Slough’s embrace,
A quiet marvel in this place.
That legacy of searching far
Now shimmers on this painted wall:
A universe where children see
A mirror of possibility.
And by her side, with gentle grace,
The Dulux dog takes up his place,
A friendly icon, loyal, bright,
A guardian shaped from warmth and light.
Not far from here, those colours spread
From Dulux’s very first homestead,
Where paint was mixed, and hope began
To brighten towns across the land.
So let this mural always be
A hymn to shared community:
Where stars once guided Herschel’s eye,
Where colours lift our spirits high,
Where every shade, joined hand in hand,
Can softly, boldly, change our land.
And in these hues, may all who pass
Find joy that’s made to truly last,
For when our colours blend as one,
A brighter Slough has just begun.
