Pahari – خوش آمدید

“She fidgeted with the keys in her hands to find the right one. After trying a couple, she managed to find the one for the front door and locked it for the night. Scared to be on her own for the first time with tiny people sound asleep upstairs, how ever would she keep them safe in a town like Slough? Had she made a mistake moving back to a town she barely had the chance to get to know over the last ten years?”

She spent ten years going back and forth from one place to another, from one city to another, from one country to another and now she was back here in Slough with a second chance to make somewhere her forever home.

‘Wexham area? Doesn’t she know it’s not safe? She must surely be out of her mind!’
‘She would have been better off staying in Stoke Poges no matter what the situation, at least her and the children would be safe.’ ‘Why doesn’t she just come back to Langley?’ ‘Does she know what she is doing? After all, she is so young and not from around here.’

This is what she had to hear…from just some of the people in her life, who no doubt meant the best for her. But little did they know…and little did she know that her new home in her old town would become her little humble abode.

Ten years she spent building a place to call home, inside the four walls of her house. Wanting to prove everyone wrong and show the world she did it. She took the time, energy, dedication and patience to nurture her home with love and safety for the sake of the tiny people who tower over her now.

She used the same time, energy, dedication and patience to find a job, make friends, volunteer and give back to her old town so others would have the chance to feel the same love and safety including herself.

‘Are you ever going to go back home?’ She’d get asked often.

‘You sound like you have come from far away!’ She’d often get told when out and about.

It’s a hop, skip and a jump away across the pond from her first home…..but it took 20 years for her to realise that she’d made the best decision ever coming back to Slough because home is where the heart is.

I ❤️ SLOUGH.
