It is widely quoted that there are 150 languages spoken in Slough. The Art Installation celebrate this diversity and shows 44 portraits of people from Slough, each representing a different language, with the word “Welcome” in their Language below the image. This website gives further insights into each person’s journey to Slough.
The Duke’s house is one of the most prominent buildings in Slough. As it faces the bustling A4 Bath Road, thousands drive or walk past it daily. They were greeted not by the grandeur it once was but by the desolation and neglect visible from afar, casting a shadow on the people and community it overlooks, tarnishing the image of the place and the people. Therefore, we decided to revitalise the building with a splash of colours, bringing it to life again. It tells the story of Slough’s diverse and resilient community. The aim was not merely to beautify but to change the town’s perception, replacing the prevailing negativity with a mood that captivates and uplifts all who pass by and generates a positive emotion about the city where we live and work.
The Project was Sponsored by The Slough Business Improvement District (The Slough BID) and the Queensmere Shopping Centre and Developed by The Slough Hub.
